How do Solar Panels Work?
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels work by capturing the sun’s energy and converting solar radiation into electricity. The panels consist of many cells made from a semi-conducting silicon, with each panel generating around 350-450 watts of energy. The direct current (DC) electricity produced within the panels is fed through an inverter to produce alternative current (AC) electricity which is more suitable for use with general household appliances.
An advantage of these solar cells is that they do not need bright sunlight to work and are effective even on a cloudy day.
Electricity produced by solar PV panels is completely noiseless, 100% emission free and cheaper than purchasing it from an energy supplier. Suitable for mounting almost anywhere and with virtually no maintenance required, solar PV panels are an efficient, cost-effective source of renewable energy for your home or business.
What are Solar Battery Systems and How do they Work?
Solar panels generate the most energy throughout the day, but this is traditionally when the least amount of electricity is used in a home. By adding battery storage, any surplus energy can be stored and used when you need it the most.
The inclusion of a solar battery increases your independence from the grid and is a more effective way to use renewable energy and save money.
We find that the majority of our customers decide that the addition of a battery is worth the initial investment and so we offer solar battery systems as part of our packages. Don’t worry if you decide not to include a battery initially, they can be added at a later stage.
We offer various battery storage sizes. Our experts will be able to advise you on the size of the battery and the type of panel system you need for your home.

How long does it take to install solar panels
Most domestic solar panel installations take no more than two days, with scaffolding typically being installed a couple of days earlier.
How long will my solar panels last?
Solar panel systems are built to last for more than 25 years and even after this time has passed, the system will continue to generate at least 80% of its initial output peak rate.
Do I Need a South Facing Roof For Solar Panels?
While it’s true that solar panels work best on any south facing roof, solar PV panels installed on roofs which are East or West facing will still operate at 85% efficiency and will still generate a significant amount of electricity throughout the day.
How Much are Solar Panels?
The overall cost of solar panels is dependent on factors including the number of panels required, the size of inverter, whether you require a wooden or steel frame construction, whether you require a battery storage system and the manufacturer. At Go Green Solar, our solar PV systems are available from £4,899 including 8 x 415W Jinko panels and a 3KW inverter.
Are Solar Panels Worth It?
Solar panels offer a number of benefits including lower electricity bills, incentives for excess electricity generated, an increase in your home’s value and of course, reducing your carbon footprint. The effectiveness of solar panels will be determined by your location, energy usage and the cost of energy in your area.
Do You Need Planning Permission for Solar Panels?
Typically, planning permission is not required to install solar panels as they are considered to be permitted development. However, there are some cases where planning permission may be required. Our expert team can advise you on any further permissions that may be required before solar panel installation takes place.
